Deutsche Bahn AG aims to achieve climate neutrality in the DB's rail operations by 2040 in accordance with the requirements of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for Scopes 1 through 3. DB Energie GmbH supports this goal by providing and further developing energy and infrastructure services.
In the area of rail vehicles, a technology-neutral approach is being pursued to replace diesel traction. The focus is on the development and expansion of charging and refueling infrastructure for alternative propulsion technologies, particularly for battery-powered and fuel cell trains.
In addition, HVO100 is being used as a biofuel for existing rolling stock. This approach serves as a transitional solution until lower-emission propulsion technologies and the associated infrastructure are widely available.
