DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung

3D Printing

Since 2015, the Group's 3D printing project has been tasked with developing 3D-printed spare parts, printed tools and prototypes across all of DB's business units and managing their usability. The aim is always to achieve added value in terms of vehicle availability and customer comfort and to have a positive impact on the rail system. The focus is on spare parts for all DB vehicle fleets and the infrastructure and implementing these in accordance with industry guidelines.

Since the launch, over 150,000 (spare) parts have been 3D printed in more than 700 different applications for the entire DB Group. By 2030, around 10,000 different components are to be stocked only in digitalised form in a dedicated digital warehouse.
